Updates on SIGMOD/PODS 2020 in Relation to Covid-19 (Coronavirus)

Update: April 8, 2020

The conference general chairs together with the program chairs and the SIGMOD Executive Committee, have decided to hold SIGMOD/PODS as a fully virtual conference on the original dates. More details will be forthcoming.

Update: March 24, 2020

The SIGMOD Executive Committee, together with the conference general chairs and program chairs, have decided to hold SIGMOD/PODS 2020 on the originally planned dates.

To accommodate participants who may not be able to attend in person, the conference will have an online component. We are still trying to figure out how much (if any) of an in person component there will be.

We will continue to monitor the situation concerning COVID-19 and will keep you posted.

Update: March 10, 2020

The safety and well-being of all potential SIGMOD/PODS 2020 conference participants is our top priority. SIGMOD 2020 is currently scheduled to be held as planned. We are regularly monitoring official health announcements, and any change in status of SIGMOD 2020 will be posted on this website. Please check this website regularly for updates. We are following updates on the situation from the World Health Organisation (WHO), the Center for Disease Control (CDC), and the Oregon Health Authority. We urge all attendees to keep informed on risks, precautions, and symptoms and to make educated decisions.

Information about Covid-19 can be found at:

Together with ACM and SIGMOD, the SIGMOD 2020 conference team has developed the following guidelines for traveling or presenting at SIGMOD 2020.

Attendees and Authors
We will require that at least one author register for the conference, even if none of the authors are able to attend. This is to offset the fixed costs associated with running the conference, which includes the streaming and storage of talks.

We will post updates on this same page about how to refund or transfer registration fees due to Covid-19 at a later date.

Authors who have registered to the conference but will not be able to present their papers due to travel restrictions are encouraged to identify a co-author who can present on their behalf.

If no authors are able to present a paper due to COVID-19 related restrictions, please check the updates on the website - we are working on options to allow remote or pre-recorded presentations for impacted authors*.

*These options are intended to assist those unable to attend due to travel restriction. The options are not intended to provide a remote attendance option for convenience.
